Leno Gas Station Prank Staged?

The viral video featured on Jay Leno's late night show featuring Will and Monifa Sims at a gas station may have been staged, according to reports this week.

During a segment of "Pumpcast News" on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" last week, a five-minute video first sees Will pumping gas when a news anchor prompts him to sing a karaoke version of Bon Jovi's "Living on a Prayer."

Following his impressive performance, Will's wife Monifa joins him on a rendition of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams."

Both talented singers, the video made waves online and has accumulated over nine million views since it was posted last Thursday. Watch it here.

Furthermore, the sensational video was so successful that rumors have surfaced of it being fake. Leno's video prank may have been entirely staged, complete with trained actors pretending to be the Sims couple, according to a report by The Smoking Gun.

The report indicates that Will and Monifa are trained actors from Chicago instead of the trainer and bartender they claim to be in the viral video.

Furthering suspicions that the video was staged, Monifa has appeared on a previous "Pumpcast News" segment on Leno in 2011.

Consequently, the YouTube star did admit to being an actress. However, Monifa said that "Tonight Show" producers made up fake jobs for the video because they "[didn't] want people to think that they planned this thing," according to The Smoking Gun.

As for her two "Pumpcast News" appearances, Monifa said it was a coincidence.

Meanwhile, YouTube viewers seem indifferent to whether or not the video was staged.

"Who cares if this is staged or not, this video still made me smile," wrote YouTube user Jessica.

Nicole posted, "Loved it, very entertaining," while Tommy added, "too funny."

After featuring the video on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," the late night television host invited the Sims onto the show where they sang "Livin' on a Prayer" again.
