Leonardo DiCaprio News: Oscar-Winning Actor Invests in Plant-Based Burger Patties Maker

Leonardo DiCaprio has once again placed his hard-earned money into good use as the Oscar-winning actor recently invested in a business that is in line with his environmental protection advocacy: Plant-based burgers.

Apart from his acting chops, DiCaprio is known for being an environmentalist who donates a good amount of money to environmental protection causes. Believing that the meat industry contributes to the damage of the environment, DiCaprio has announced recently that he has invested in Beyond Meat, a company that specializes in making plant-based burger patties that supposedly don't only look like the common and more popular meat version of the food but tastes like one, too.

"Livestock production is a major contributor to carbon emissions. Shifting from animal meat to the plant-based meats developed by Beyond Meat is one of the most powerful measures someone can take to reduce their impact on our climate. Beyond Meat's ability to create appealing, healthy meat directly from plants will go a long way in helping everyday consumers take action on climate change," DiCaprio said in a statement posted on Beyond Meat's official website.

DiCaprio is not the only big name who has invested in Beyond Meat, though. According to reports, the company is also backed by Bill Gates, Twitter co-founders Biz Stone and Evan Williams, and even by other another meat company, Tyson Foods.

The Humane Society of the United States, America's largest animal rights protection group, is also an investor in the company.

Last month, DiCaprio also announced that he has invested in MindMaze, a 5-year-old company whose virtual reality was previously used in the medical and healthcare industry. In a statement that announced his investment, DiCaprio said that he is excited about MindMaze as he believes that it will be the next driving force in the media and entertainment industry.

The actor is also an investor in the garbage startup Rubicon Global, data analytics company Qloo, mattress maker Casper, sustainable food company LoveTheWild, and plant-based snack maker Hippeas.
