Earlier this week, former EXO band member Luhan, also known as Lu Han, posted on social media platform Sina Weibo and confirmed he was in a romantic relationship with Chinese actress Guan Xiaotong. Fans' reactions about the announcement then ultimately crashed the micro-blogging site.
Sina Weibo is regarded by some as China's Twitter platform, so it works as one of the main channels that connect Chinese celebrities to their millions of fans.
Recently, Luhan confirmed the long-time rumor that he was dating Guan through a short post on Weibo that said (translation via Soompi): "Hello everyone, I am introducing my girlfriend @Guan Xiaotong."
The post quickly gained an overwhelming response from fans with almost 5 million likes and more than 2 million comments, including one from Guan -- also known as Traey Miley -- who said: "Aiya, so awesome!"
According to the South China Morning Post, hours after Luhan made the post, Weibo's engineers needed to temporarily stop some users' access to the social media site to let the platform's servers recover.
The same report said Luhan's post was published around noon on Sunday and immediately caused the digital chaos. Luckily, Weibo's servers were up and running again around 4 p.m. of the same day.
Deeply invested fans of Luhan ironically expressed disappointment that the celebrity and performer is now officially in a relationship. Some were also not delighted that Luhan was dating Guan.
One fan reportedly said: "Why Guan Xiaotong? Any girl would have been fine, but not her."
There were also speculations that the relationship was only "for show" since the two currently headline a TV series in China called "Sweet Combat." Luhan and Guan take on the roles of students who will eventually fall in love.
Luhan is mostly known for being part of the extremely famous Korean pop band called EXO. However, he left the group in 2014 and embarked on a solo career. Most of his projects since then have been in China.
Meanwhile, Guan is an equally famous actress and celebrity in China and is known to be one of the best in the country and in her generation.
