The second half will only air from spring 2015 and bears the moniker "The End of an Era."

So it appears like Mad Men Season 7 will go a similar route just like Breaking Bad Season 5 in having a split final season, filmed separately and aired separately, roughly a year apart in both cases.

The option to split the season might have frustrated some, but with Breaking Bad it has proven quite popular in the end and has resulted in some of the finest episodes to come out from the series. So even though there was a long wait for the second half, most now agree it was worth waiting for.

This means that AMC basically has secured its high ratings all the way through to 2015, as Mad Men is one of the network's top shows – along with the finishing "Breaking Bad" and the hugely popular "The Walking Dead."

Some believe that AMC didn't want to risk losing both Breaking Bad and Mad Men in back to back years, as they are two series that will be extremely hard to replace.

It will give them more time to launch a few new series that they will hope will stir the similar levels of interest and replace their top shows as they comes to a finale.
