Two of the biggest megachurch pastors in the Seattle area, Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church and Judah Smith of The City Church, are already getting ready for the major 2013 Resurgence Conference in November. They talked about their good friendship in a recent interview.
Smith, who is still promoting his book, Jesus Is: Find a New Way to Be Human, which he discussed in an interview with The Christian Post in March, was recently interviewed by Driscoll.
The Mars Hill leader, who has been invited to preach at The City Church numerous times, said: "I believe it makes Jesus happy that two of the largest churches in our region are genuinely for one another, love one another, encourage one another, and care for one another."
In his interview with Driscoll, Smith, 34, talked about what it was like growing up as a pastor's child, and described the day when he felt called to become a preacher himself.
"It still amazes me that people let us speak into their lives for 30 minutes or so and that we have the opportunity to impact them for good," Smith said.
The author identified 2 Timothy 2:1 as one of the most meaningful verses for his life. The passage reads: "You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus."
Smith explained, "It has always been kind of a plumb line for what I hold myself to in terms of just being who I am in Jesus, doing what he's graced me to do, and staying in my lane, so to speak, regarding who he's called me to be."
The entire interview is available on the 2013 Resurgence website.
The November conference, which will feature talks and lectures from inspiring Christian leaders, is aimed at cultivating a resurgence of faithfulness among people. Smith's The City Church will be among several satellite locations for the event.
Some of the leading authors behind the Resurgence conference are Driscoll, Matt Chandler, John Piper, Ed Stetzer and others.
