Michelle Williams Suicidal Thoughts News: Destiny's Child Singer Reveals Depression During Group's Success

Michelle Williams recently opened up about her depression during her Destiny's Child days.

On Wednesday's episode of "The Talk," Williams revealed that she felt suicidal while she was still a member of the girl group. Despite being in one of the most successful bands of the late nineties, the 37-year-old said she still felt depressed.

"At the age of 25, had I had a name to what I was feeling at the time, I would have disclosed that I've been suffering from depression," she shared. "I didn't know until I was in my 30s what was going on. I just thought it was growing pains."

Alongside Beyonce and Kelly Rowland, Williams was a member of the famed band from 2000 to 2005.

She mentioned that during her struggle, she tried to reach out to Beyonce's dad — who was also the group's manager — Matthew Knowles for help. At the time, Knowles was unable to understand what Williams was going through.

"For years, I'm in one of the top-selling female groups of all time suffering with depression," she continued. "It got really really bad to the point of being suicidal."

Williams added that singer Demi Lovato was the one who inspired her to speak out about her own mental health issues.

BBC points out that the gospel singer became the subject of "Poor Michelle" jokes and memes during her time in the show. Over a decade since the group members decided to part ways, jokes about not wanting to be the "Michelle" among a group of women continue to exist on social media. HBO's TV show "Insecure" even made a reference about it in one episode.

Since going solo, Williams has launched four studio albums. She also had lead starring theater roles which include "Aida, "The Colour Purple" and "Chicago."
