Tish, 53, reportedly filed for divorce from the country-music singer on Thursday, more than two years after the pair agreed to salvage their strained marriage. The mother-of-five requested "privacy" in a statement released shortly after her filing.

"This is a personal matter and we are working to find a resolution that is in the best interest of our family. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time," Tish said in a statement obtained by People magazine.

Billy Ray, 51, made his own request for privacy in a separate statement. It is still unclear what exactly prompted Tish's divorce filing however Billy Ray assured fans that the divorce is in his family's "best interest."

"This is a personal matter and we are doing what is in the best interest of our family. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time," Billy Ray said.

Tish, who shares three biological children with Billy Ray, is said to be seeking primary physical and legal custody of their daughter, Noah, 13. She is also reportedly seeking alimony and all attorney's fees and costs that are incurred throughout the divorce proceedings.

In 2010 fans of the "Achy Breaky Heart" singer were left stunned after he abruptly filed for divorce in Tennessee citing "irreconcilable differences."

"As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family," the pair said in a joint statement at the time. "We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers."

Less than six months later Billy Ray revealed that he had withdrawn the divorce petition during an interview on "The View."

"I want to put my family back together," he said on the ABC talkshow.

Shortly after Tish took to social networking site Facebook to express her gratitude after the singer agreed to work on their marriage.

"Big thanks to all of our family, friends, and fans who have kept us in their thoughts and prayers," she wrote. "Our family weathered a huge storm and I feel we are stronger than we have ever been."

Miley, 20, is yet to publicly address her parents' divorce.
