Jay's (Ed O'Neill) old friend will take a shine to Gloria (Sofia Vergara) in the upcoming episode of "Modern Family."
In the episode titled "Sex, Lies & Kickball," the synopsis, according to TV Guide, reveals that an old pal of Jay will return from Costa Rica to stay with his family for a while. Although Jay is happy to catch up with Shorty (Chazz Palminteri), he will be annoyed when he notices that the other man prefers his wife's company more than his. It looks like Gloria will score a new admirer and Jay does not like it one bit.
Elsewhere, Alex (Ariel Winter) will show her mother that she is way past her childhood years. She will reportedly prove to Claire (Julie Bowen) that she and Ben (Joe Mande) are involved sexually. Claire will likely have a heart attack when her daughter drops the news. Alex started dating Ben when she found out that he was the one sending her flowers. Both Claire and Phil (Ty Burrell) are not particularly fond of the guy although he has been working with them for a while.
The Dunphy couple has always relied on Alex's good girl image since she became a teen. This is partly the reason why they are confident she will not do anything outrageous while she is away for college. Still, Claire and Phil are missing the days when all of their children are back home and safe with them. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Burrell said that the couple misses the brood a lot.
"The kids, like a lot of people in the 18-to-25 range, they tend to hang out, they tend to not be moving out. I was guilty of that when I was that age, too. So, Phil and Claire are going through wanting to be empty nesters, wanting the kids to move out, and then when the kids are out of the house at different points, they're missing them. That's where they're at," Burrell said.
"Modern Family" season 9 episode 4 will air on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
