More Snow and Rain Expected Across Midwest, Northeast

The Midwest and Northeast are preparing to be battered by winter storms again this week.

Forecasters are predicting light rains and snow to begin Monday, picking up in intensity as the day rolls on.

The Lower Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley should expect drizzle on Monday, with light rain and snow falling in the interior Northeast by the evening.

The Great Lakes region can expect the light snow to start accumulating Tuesday.

A low-pressure system will move into the region Tuesday, combining with the already cold air. Upstate New York, the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and northern New England will see large accumulations Tuesday, according to forecasters.

More than 6 inches of snow is expected in the Lake Ontario snowbelt, which stretches from upstate New York into northwest Maine.

New York, Boston and other northeastern cities can expect a mixture of wet snow and rain to fall Monday and Tuesday, creating heavy slush and slick road conditions.

Strong winds are expected to create low visibility and make hazardous driving conditions throughout the rest of the Northeast.

Black ice, or flash freezing is likely to occur throughout the Northeast and Midwest.

Wind gusts could hit 45 mph in parts of western New York, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for much of the state, and parts of Pennsylvania. Wind gusts and rains are expected to turn into snow and sleet by Tuesday in the Albany, N.Y. region, with snow accumulating into Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicts rain will turn into snow and sleet overnight in the Grand Rapids, Mich. area.

Similar forecasts are predicted across the region.

Snow showers are expected to move across the region throughout the week as different weather fronts make its way across the country and pack a winter punch.
