Mother's death might make Norman a complete psycho in Season 4 of 'Bates Motel'

Season 4 of "Bates Motel" might have a game changer, an event that could make Norman Bates come completely unhinged and go on a rampage. It is quite possible that Norma might die, either at the hands of her son or murdered by the bad guys as she had ratted on them to the Sheriff.

In these past seasons, Norman, in his twisted mind, sees his mother killing people when actually it is he who is killing them. In the Season 3 finale, Norman pushes his mother down the stairs as he tries to run off with Bradley. Norman has reached that arc of his character when he can easily hurt his mother.

In Season 4, Norma Bates and her son will develop a more complex relationship as she has ignored her son's mental disorder for long.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Norma, Norman's mother played by Vera Farmiga, might be her son's next victim and this could lead to Norman going off the deep end.

Showrunner Kerry Ehrin hinted Norma's death will propel the story forward and it might happen mid-season. She says, "I feel like that could happen, honestly, at any point. It could happen in any episode from now until the end of the series!"

Norma's death will also have a mystery about it. Who caused her death? Will it be Norman or is it the gang of bad guys who seek revenge on her as she had sent the Sheriff to apprehend them? There is another factor too. Norma is not very popular in the town and a lot of the townsfolk detest her. She might be done in by anybody. This will also continue to bring intrigue to the season.

TVLine reports that Season 4 takes place immediately after the events of Season 3. Ehrin says, "We left with a lot of cliffhangers, Bradley had just been killed, Norman thinks his mother did it, the actual Norma has no idea where her son is, Emma's going in for a lung transplant. So there are a lot of threads we [wanted] to pick up immediately."

"Bates Motel" Season 4 returns in 2016.
