The air date of upcoming fifth season of New Girl might be pushed a bit to accommodate lead girl, Zooey Deschanel's pregnancy. Fox had made the announcement of New Girl Season 5 in May.

"Four seasons in, New Girl continues to be one of the smartest and most relatable comedies on television," said Fox entertainment president David Madden. "The writing is razor-sharp, the ensemble is consistently hilarious, and we couldn't be more proud of … the entire New Girl team. We absolutely love this show and we're so excited to bring it back for Season Five."

Fans are speculating that with their favourite New Girl Zooey Deschanel, now pregnant, what will happen in Season 5. Zooey has already filmed several episodes of the upcoming fifth season. New Girl creator Liz Meriwether says the central character, the "New Girl" will actually be absent for four episodes when the show returns this fall.

"We only finished about three weeks ago. We filmed four episodes of season five, so we did 26 [episodes] total for the year. (Laughs.) That was a little hard. When we come back, we're doing four episodes without Zooey, actually. She'll come back after that. It's kind of a weird schedule," Meriwether said.

Fans are going to be sceptical about the initial four episodes of Season 5 without Zooey Deschanel, but Liz Meriwether is confident.

"The first episode without her is actually called 'No Girl.' People are going to be asking, 'How are they going to pull this off?' I'm kind of asking that question of myself. I directed the first episode without Zooey, that's the last one we shot this year, and it's really funny. It's a guys' episode. It's an opportunity to stretch ourselves ... Or it will be a total disaster, and then she'll come back."

One celebratory thing about season 5 is that it will feature its landmark 100th episode.
