Nexus 7 Price Drops to $199 at Best Buy, Device Comes with Free $25 Google Play Credit

The Nexus 7 price dropped to just $199 at Best Buy for the 16GB model.

The retailer is offering the latest version of the tablet at this discounted rate and is also giving buyers a free $25 Google Play Store gift card that can be used for digital content purchases. Once buyers pay for the tablet, the free $25 gift code will be sent via email. It should arrive about 30 min after the purchase.

The deal only applies to the entry level Nexus 7 2013 model. The LTE and 32GB versions will still retail at their normal $269.99 and $349.99 price points. The retailer also still sells the Nexus 7 2012 models refurbished for $149.99.

The Nexus 7 (2013) was released shortly before the summer of this year and introduced Android 4.3 JellyBean to the market. It features impressive specs including a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 HD display, 2GB RAM, a 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, 16/32GB of internal storage, built-in wireless charging, and a 5-megapixel rear camera.

The tablet also introduced Android 4.3, JellyBean which was unveiled alongside the device earlier this year. The display on the Nexus 7 is 1080p which makes it the first Full HD 7-inch slate. The device's virtual sound technology is also quite impressive, as it gives users a 5.1 surround sound experience by using headphones or build-in speakers.

The 7-inch Nexus monster sparked huge interest in the mid-end tablet market joining the likes of the Kindle Fire and Nook with the release of the original model in 2012. Google has been able to outclass both of those slates thanks to superior specs and the strong reputation the Nexus name has.
