Nokia Lumia 930 vs 925 Review: Specs and Price Comparison

Nokia has been busy improving upon their Lumia series of smartphones. Usually, their newer models get increments of 10 to their model numbers while improved versions only get five added to their model number.

Taking the Lumia 600 line, newer models are numbered 610, 620, and so on. Improved models are numbered 615, 625, or 635, depending on what model it was improved upon. An improved model is generally supposed to be better than a newer model, so would this be the case for the Lumia 930 and 925?

The Lumia 930 is set to replace the 925 in the 900 series as the flagship phone. The 930 sports a lot of improvements over the 925 so let's run it down one by one.

Being a flagship phone, the 930 should be faster and fancier than its predecessor. First off, the camera. The 930 has a much more powerful camera than the 925 with its 20-megapixel snapper compared to the latter's 8-megapixel.

The new 930 will also sport that newer and more refined Winows 8.1 OS compared to the 925's older Windows 8 software.

When it comes to the screen, the 930 looks to be bigger with a 5.0-inch screen with a full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution. The 925's screen is half an inch smaller, with a resolution of 1280 x 768. Both still utilize the AMOLED display and Nokia's ClearBlack technology that enhances the contrast of the screen. Screen protection also gets an improvement with the 930, with its Corning Gorilla Glass 3 compared to the 925's Gorilla Glass 2.

The design is still the same for both handsets; the glass front, polycarbonate backing and the aluminum frame that separates the front and back elements.

The 930 gets improved hardware with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 dual-core 2.2GHz Krait 400 processor. The 925 only has the MSM8960 Snapdragon dual-core 1.5GHz processor. By no means is the 925 slow. Both phones are quick to respond and can handle daily tasks quite easily.

Naturally, the 930 is more expensive than the 925, currently selling for almost $600 while the latter only goes for $450. This is expected because of the incremental upgrade that the 930 received. When considering either, it would be better to go with the newer one despite the premium price.
