Olympic Gymnast McKayla Maroney Receives Love and Support from Former 'Fierce Five' Teammates After Sexual Abuse Confession

McKayla Maroney is getting much love and support from her former Fierce Five teammates after coming forward with the sexual abuse she had experienced at the hands of their former sports doctor.

Sexual assault has been a lasting issue in the world of Hollywood more so after a number of women had come forward to reveal that they had been sexually harassed and assaulted by disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein throughout his career. However, sexual assault and harassment aren't exclusive only to actors and actress in Hollywood. A recent admission from a 21-year-old Olympic gold-winning gymnast McKayla Maroney has earned her love and support from people across the online hemisphere, especially her former teammates.

"My heart breaks for McKayla, my teammate and friend who has suffered from these terrible acts of sexual abuse during her career," Jordyn Weiber, her former teammate, told E! News. "Although I personally haven't suffered any physical assault or sexual abuse while competing as a gymnast, my heart goes out to McKayla and the victims like her who have endured this abuse of power. We need to speak out and stand up for change. I am proud of McKayla for sharing her story and inspiring others to do so," she added.

Former teammates and members of the so-called Fierce Five of the 2012 Olympics Aly Raisman and Kyla Ross took to Twitter to express their overpouring support for Maroney.

On Wednesday, McKayla Maroney penned a letter detailing the sexual abuse she had experienced at the hands of Dr. Larry Nasser during her time as a gymnast. She posted the letter on her own Twitter account, and there, she revealed she had been sexually molested by the doctor beginning from when she was 13 years old and until her early retirement last year.

According to the 21-year-old, she was inspired by the courage of so many women who had shared their sexual assault experiences via social media through the hashtag #MeToo.

Dr. Larry Nasser is currently in jail facing charges from over 100 women who filed sexual assault charges against him.
