One Decision on Marriage Leads to Another

The decision is out.

Marriage in the United States of America has now been redefined to include homosexual couples who want to enter into holy matrimony. Irony intended. So what do we do now?

I will get to that in a minute, but first let me say I have no quick quotes, cute sayings of God's sovereignty, or heart-warming assurances that everything will be okay. For far too long Christians have stood back and even mocked the small minority of believers who decided to walk in missional obedience to fight the battles of the culture. The faithful few have endured the labels of "divisive," "judgmental," "unloving," "controversial," and even "conspiratorial."

For far too long, those in the pulpit have allowed their flocks to believe and behave within the worldview that their faith is private, not public. The weary culture warriors have appeased ignorant hearts with tender egos by "agreeing to disagree."

We are now at the point where we can no longer afford that luxury. Prior to Friday's decision, we were content to have some on the frontlines of the culture wars and others choosing to disengage as much as possible under the guise of "I don't get involved with politics." The majority of our brothers and sisters have fallen asleep at the wheel, and we have crashed. And the survivors will be forced to deal with the reality of their new surroundings.

You will cope, crumble, or stand courageously. You have lost the luxury of sitting idly by to "agree to disagree" or to keep your faith confined to the walls of your church. If anything, this court decision will force many of us to make a decision. Will we choose to be a Christian or a florist? A Christian or a baker? A Christian or a fire chief? Jesus or ourselves? These choices will no longer be for the championed few of our faith. This will be our new normal.

How will you choose? Now that the decision is out, how will you stand? Private Christianity will no longer be an option. We stand. The reason the culture has prevailed in depravity is because those on the side of evil never gave up. They were there at the school board meetings, the local elections, and big elections. We must never, ever give up. This is not the end. There are things we can do with one more election that could turn the tide back to righteousness.

Will our response be obedience to make that happen?
