Oprah's New York Apartment for Sale: Oprah Winfrey Network Facing Trouble?

Oprah has listed her New York City penthouse apartment with the asking price of $7.9 million after reports that her cable network OWN has failed to increase its ratings.

The talk show host first bought the apartment in 2008 at the asking price of $7.1 million. The home was thought to have been purchased by Oprah's good friend Gayle King, who lives in New York. However, later reports stated that Oprah herself had in fact purchased the apartment.

Despite the four years of ownership, it is still uncertain whether either Oprah or Gayle actually spent any time at the apartment. Since the time of the sale announcement, the apartment has remained vacant.

The apartment is located in Midtown Manhattan, about five blocks away from Central Park at 207 East 57th street. The new development condo contains 36 floors but has, on average, only two apartments per floor.

The unit up for sale is on the 36th floor and contains a space of 2,530 square feet. It has 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths and a 768 square foot terrace.

"The apartment has a triangular shaped living room, a modern and sleek kitchen equipped with every modern gadget you could hope for, a separate dining area and two bedrooms. The master suite has three walk-in closets, a jetted tub and a sleek shower," reported Radar Online.

Radar also reported on the number of other properties owned by the billionaire talk show host.

"In addition to the New York penthouse she also owns a huge estate in Montecito, Calif., a plantation in Hawaii, a duplex in downtown Chicago and houses and condos in Douglasville, Ga., Franklin, Tenn. and Elmwood Park, Ill.," the site confirmed.

Monthly house payments average over $30,000, which could be one reason why Oprah has opted to sell.

Although Oprah isn't exactly pinched for cash, reports have stated that her new cable network, OWN, which launched last January, has not been successful. In November, Discovery, the networks partner, invested an additional $15 million in order to help increase the network's ratings.
