The combination of Pepsi, chicken and chips is apparently popular in China, sparking makers to release a new flavor based on the unfamiliar mix.

According to Lay's, a very popular dish in China is based around chicken, soy sauce, various spices, and amazingly Pepsi Cola.

The combination will be foreign to most Americans, but with the dish apparently so popular across China, Lay's has decided to try and cash in on the gap in the market.

According to Oddity Central in a Dec. 13 report, the flavor combination is not so strange, and that the new flavor being marketed by Lay's is in fact a well-researched and strategic step by the company.

Meanwhile, Richard Lee, PepsiCo's chief marketing officer in China, has also said, "We thought it would be really cool to have a cola combined with chicken. … It's a very popular dish in China. Also it would be very cool to involve one of our most-iconic soft drinks."

Pepsi is always looking to diversify its products and is behind some of the most popular drinks and snacks in the United States, including, Pepsi Cola, Gatorade, Tropicana, Quaker Oats and Frito Lay.

Lay's potato chips and Pepsi Cola are two of the company's most popular in the United States, but not many in the U.S. would have ever thought of combining the two into a single product. However, the taste combination is already extremely popular in the Chinese market and now Pepsi is looking to strike that area of the market with Pepsi-Chicken Chips.

There are currently no announced plans to release the flavor in the United States or the Western World, but even if the snack is only popular in one country, with a population of more than 1 billion people, the company is confident there is a massive market ready to get behind the new product.
