Peru Soccer Coach Praises God as Team Progresses to Copa America Semi-Final

Peru soccer coach, Sergio Markarian has given glory to God for Peru’s victory over Colombia 2-0 last weekend, in the Copa America quarter-finals in Argentina.

"Glory to God for this victory! If Colombia had converted the penalty, the story would have been different," said Markarian, who has been a Christian for many years and is also the former president of the Bible Society in Uruguay.

The Peru team now go on to the semi-finals to face Uruguay, who sensationally beat Argentina in their quarter-final.

"This was a huge effort. We played against a team of great players with great physical ability and important tactics. My players demonstrated a great discipline," the Peru coach said.

He pointed out that the players are learning not to use excuses, and he urged them to keep moving forward as a team.

Markaria has previously testified that he attributes his success in soccer to God, and has said that the love he receives from God he uses to pass to his players.

"My work depends on the results and although God does not play soccer He makes me have love [and] that is the main thing to communicate to my players," he said.
