Ramona Singer recently opened up about the reason behind her decision to divorce her estranged husband Mario.

Last week the "Real Housewives of New York" star, 57, announced her separation from the entrepreneur, 60, on social networking site Twitter. She recently explained that although she has "strong values," she simply could not move past his infidelity.

"I tried to make my marriage work because I have strong values and I believe that people make mistakes," Ramona told People.com. "But you reach a point where you realize the other person isn't putting in as much effort as you are. And I reached my breaking point."

Mario, who shares a daughter Avery with Ramona, is believed to have had an extramarital affair with 32-year-old Kelsey Dexter. He was photographed holding hands with the socialite last week and they are said to be in a relationship.

"Mario's behavior is embarrassing to me and my daughter," Ramona said. "I'm not some pushover. I'm a strong, successful woman. I need someone who is going to treat me with love and respect."

In March the Bravo TV star turned to her faith in a bid to save her crumbling 22-year marriage, and she shared a Biblical tweet that sparked reconciliation rumors.

"Having an open door in front of you means having an opportunity before you. ~ Revelation 3:8," Ramona tweeted on March 24.

The tweet relates to Revelation 3:8, which touches on the importance of upholding one's faith even during one's darkest hours.

"He begged for forgiveness and was crying," Ramona said of her decision to give Mario a second chance. "We had a 22-year marriage here and I said, 'You know what? I am going to look at the bigger picture. People are entitled to make a mistake.'"

Despite efforts to save the marriage with the help of a therapist, Mario reportedly continued the infidelity, prompting Ramona to end her marriage for good. She reportedly filed for divorce earlier this year but it is yet to be finalized.

"In life we have to realize that letting go is the first step to moving on ... As many of you women know, we give our best...until there is nothing left to give," Ramona wrote on Facebook Thursday. "Well, I need to start fresh … I will just redirect my efforts into new adventures and endeavors. I appreciate all of your support. To those of you who have judged me harshly, maybe you will understand me more as I move on...God Bless …"
