Red to Perform on 'The Tonight Show'

Nashville-based Christian rock band, Red, will be on NBC's "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" this Wednesday – a rare slot for a Christian act.

Although the band doesn't contain overly religious references to its members' faith, the lyrics are meant to be taken as a spiritual message – perhaps a reason why Red is popular on both Christian and secular charts.

The music guest appearance was confirmed after the band appeared on TBS's "Conan" show, where members performed their No. 1 hit, "Faceless."

Earlier today, they received the 2011 Dove Award nomination for their song, "Start Again," in the Rock Recorded Song of the Year category.

The twice Grammy nominated rock band's third album, Until We Have Faces, debuted at the No. 2 spot on the Billboard's Top 200 earlier this month. It was also No. 1 on the following Nielsen SoundScan charts: Current Hard Music, Current Rock Music, Current Alternative, Christian Rock, Current Contemporary Christian Album and Record Label Independent charts.

When asked about the meaning of the band's name, lead vocalist Michael Barnes, said "it's a power color, a very emotional thing. And I think our music gets to the core of that. We're really trying to flesh out and draw out those emotions that may have been stagnant or just stirring up in people."

They are currently on the road for the Winter Jam tour alongside some of today's most popular Christian artists, including Kutless, Francesca Battistelli, Newsong, Chris Sligh, and Chris August. The tour has reported an attendance of over 229,000, with over 30,000 reported decisions for Christ.
