SAG Award Reveals Nominations: Will Sofia Vergara Finally Take Home Award?

Sofia Vergara, the Latina actress, has received a Screen Actors Guild Nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her role as Gloria in “Modern Family.”

For the Columbian, who admitted to having trouble being taken seriously as a career comedian, this is the fourth SAG award nomination for playing Gloria, the much younger, noisier, and more flamboyant partner of Jay Pritchett, who’s played by Ed O’Neill.

Her role as Gloria has earned Vergara many accolades and a slew of award nominations, but she has never once won an individual award. The cast has won several awards for being the best cast ensemble.

Last year, it was believed she would finally take home a Golden Globe award, but it went instead to her co-star, Julie Bowen, for her role as Claire, the homemaking wife and neighbor of Jay Pritchett and the family.

“Modern Family” is the most nominated series with five nominations for actors Sofia Vergara, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell and Eric Stonestreet, along with an outstanding performance by an ensemble in a comedy series nomination.

Other nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series include Tina Fey for “30 Rock,” Betty White for “Hot In Cleveland,” and Edie Falco for “Nurse Jackie.”

Nominees for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series include Alec Baldwin for "30 Rock,” Ty Burrell for "Modern Family,” Steve Carell for "The Office,” Jon Cryer for "Two and A Half Men," and Eric Stonestreet for "Modern Family.”

For Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, other nominees include the shows “30 Rock,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “Glee,” “Modern Family,” and “The Office.”

The SAG and Golden Globe awards typically predict the nominations for the Oscars whose nominations will be released on Jan. 24.
