Salem Communications Welcomes Christian Music Planet to the Family

Salem Communications Corporation, one of the leading Christian and family-themed media providers, has recently acquired Christian Music Planet from the Educational Media Foundation (EMF), a California based Christian radio broadcaster.

In the acquisition, Salem will gain both the Christian Music Planet brand as well as the web domain,, which has become one of the leading Christian music web portals.

As part of its increasing internet enterprise, Salem plans on building on top of the successful existing platform of Christian Music Planet.

“This acquisition supports our efforts to expand our Christian music internet platform,” said Jim Cumbee, Salem’s president of non-broadcast media in a statement, “and complements our broader multimedia strategy that includes integrating the online music community with CCM Magazine subscribers and our music station listeners in order to reach the Christian music audience wherever they are looking for content."

Two of the company’s divisions will be most affected, and Salem Communications hopes to develop on top of its currently strong media foundation with the recent purchase.

Salem Web Network is already a leading Internet provider of Christian content and online streaming while Salem Publishing is a chief publisher of Christian-themed magazines. Current publications include CCM Magazine and Singing News Magazine.

EMF will publish its final issue of Christian Music Planet magazine with the March/April 2007 issue which will head to homes and vendors on Mar. 1.
