Samsung Galaxy S4-Like Device Shows Up at FCC

A Samsung Galaxy S4-like smartphone showed up at the FCC this week.

This device, named the Galaxy Grand, features a 5-inch display that's rumored for the Galaxy S4. However, the other specifications show that this is definitely not the next-generation flagship handset for Samsung.

This Galaxy Grand smartphone display only comes with 480 x 800 resolution compared to the rumored 1080p screen expected for the Galaxy S4.

Other specifications revealed by the FCC documents for the Galaxy Grand include, an Exynos 4412 quad-core 1.4GHz processor, Android 4.1.1, JellyBean, NFC (near-field communications), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n connectivity, 2100mAh battery, 4G LTE, and an appearance similar to the Galaxy S3.

The Galaxy Grand is expected to launch in Korea sometime in the near future.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 release date might have to be pushed back due to production issues with the device's display.

The new Samsung flagship handset is rumored to feature a 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED HD panel with 441 ppi pixel density.

However, a new report out of Korea states that Samsung is struggling to mass produce these displays because of the evaporation process technology that is normally used for screens.

The company is currently trying to obtain advanced LITI technology from 3M that allows OLED material to be more smoothly printed on glass.

Those with knowledge of Samsung's manufacturing process have stated that the company is having difficulty producing these displays due to issues with blue-colored materials.

Samsung is expected to introduce these new displays at this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

The Galaxy S4 specs will include a quad-core 2.0GHz Exynos 5450 chipset.

A Korean source has reported that this will be the processor featured in the new smartphone when it launches in 2013.

This chipset will be faster than the one found in the Nexus 10 and will be made on a 28nm process.

This quad-core Exynos 5450 chipset that clocks in at 2.0GHz surfaced in earlier reports that were filed with specification information for the Galaxy S4.
