'Scandal' Season 4 Cast, Plot Rumors: Portia de Rossi Joining Show for Top Secret Arc

It has been confirmed that Portia de Rossi has been cast in a multi-episode arc in the upcoming season of "Scandal."

The first to break the news on July 23 was de Rossi's partner Ellen DeGeneres, who took to Twitter to announce the news.

"So annoying when people brag on twitter & that's why I'm not tweeting that Portia just signed on to do a top secret arc on 'Scandal'. Oops," she tweeted.

Though ABC has confirmed the announcement, the network has not disclosed other details about de Rossi's role or any of the storyline details for the upcoming season.

De Rossi is no stranger to TV, as the actress had previous roles in other hit series. She played Nelle Porter on the popular sitcom "Ally McBeal" and Lindsay Bluth Funke on the cult comedy "Arrested Development"'

Aside from de Rossi, other actors also have also had special arcs on the show. Lisa Kudrow was on several episodes in season 3.

"Scandal" is looking to add a new recurring character to the mix who is described in the casting notice as an African American lawyer in his 30s to 50s, according to TVLine. Apparently there is no timetable for the newbie's arrival, and there is a chance that "Scandal" creator Shonda Rhimes will scrap the whole thing if she is unable to find the right actor to play the part.

Rhimes has made it clear in previous interviews that she is in no rush to "beef up the cast," and she has also cleared up that this is not a "Harrison recast."

"Scandal" returns on Sept. 25 on ABC.
