Seattle Seahawks Roster, Injury News 2017: Defensive End Dion Jordan Nearing Return to Practice

The Seattle Seahawks are a little short on defensive backs right now with Pro Bowler Cliff Avril still on the shelf due to the neck and spine injury. Fortunately, reinforcements are on the way.

Former Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan is eligible to come off the reserve/non-football injury (NFI) list following the Seahawks' bye week, and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has confirmed that he may be ready to return to the practice field later this month.

"He's in football conditioning mode with the trainers and the strength and conditioning staff, and he's pushing it. He's going to see how far he can go and how fast he can go, and we'll just keep our fingers crossed for him. It has been a long haul for him and we're pulling for him," Carroll said, via the Seahawks' official website.

Jordan was the third-overall pick in the 2013 draft, but his career hasn't gone the way many expected and hasn't played a game in the National Football League (NFL) since the 2014 season. He was suspended for the entire 2015 campaign for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances, and the Dolphins released him after he failed his physical earlier this year.

Jordan has been on the shelf ever since he underwent a pair of knee surgeries this summer. He signed a one-year deal with the Seahawks in April with no guaranteed money.

Meanwhile, cornerback DeShawn Shead is also nearing a return and he has been working hard to get back into shape.

"He's got a couple weeks before he can get back out, but he's in full push mode, he's trying to get it done. As soon as they'll let him back out, he's coming," Carroll said.

Shead was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list while he recovered from the torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) he sustained last season.
