The "Come & Get It" singer, 21, was scheduled to perform in Asia and Australia after the New Year, but on Dec. 16, she announced that she was canceling her shows to spend time focusing on herself. Gomez kicked off her world tour in August, it was set to wrap up in Melbourne, Australia in February.

The former Disney star's friends and family reportedly expressed concerns about her partying late last year and insisted that she seek professional help to get "cleaned up."

"Her friends and family became increasingly worried that there might be a serious problem with Selena," a source explained.

"Particularly, her parents. The partying was, at times, wild. They wanted to help her and they very much encouraged her to go to rehab," the insider explained. "Others very close to her also urged her to seek professional help."

In addition to allegedly being "exhausted," Gomez has been struggling since splitting up with pop star Justin Bieber last year. The pair dated for three years before they reportedly split due to trust issues.

The singer's stint in rehab came just weeks before Bieber's Jan. 23 arrest in Miami. The pair reunited on Jan. 2 which sparked reports of a reconciliation.

"It just got to a point where she needed to get out of Los Angeles, get away from 'the scene' and the pressures of Hollywood, to also get away from those who had, admittedly, become a bad influence on her," the source revealed.

The singer issues a statement after her abrupt tour cancellation and she expressed disappointment to her fans.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," Gomez said in a statement obtained by EOnline.

"But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be," she continued. "To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."
