'Sherlock' Season 4 Release Date, Spoilers: Crazy Love Affair? Actors Busy With Other Projects

Latest tidbits of "Sherlock" Season 4 spoilers indicated that Holmes' archnemesis Jim Moriarty will return for the upcoming season. But that doesn't end there. There are speculations pointing out that Moriarty's reoccurrence could be caused by none other than his ever-growing obsession with the sleuth.

Irish actor Andrew Scott himself was quite surprised with how the fans went through the lengths of portraying the relationship between the detective and the villain as something more "romantic" in their fan-fictions.

Amidst the crazy and explicit fan fictions, the 37-year-old star gave thoughts about the dynamics of the relationship his character shared with the protagonist.

"Well, they are absolutely obsessed with each other," he told Attitude magazine.

"There has to be a line. In the words of Erasure, I love to hate you," Scott added.

Showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss further shed light to the rumors surrounding the return of Moriarty.

"We've had what we're going to do with Moriarty in place from before the second season. Exactly what we're going to do. I remember talking it through with Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty. Wait and see what's going to happen," Moffat said.

The exact date for the slated 2016 season 4 premiere of the detective show is still held questionable as cast members like Benedict Cumberbatch getting their hands full with other projects.

Cumberbatch is said to voice Shere Khan in the purported Warner Bros. film adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 38-year-old English actor is also rumored to be busy working on the latest "Star Wars" movie installment.

Other than that, Dr. John Watson actor Martin Freeman is also hinted to do a standalone series for his character.

However, producer Gatiss made affirmations that despite the busy schedules, they are still working to set a production date.

"I can officially tell you that we are moving closer to agreeing some dates to shoot. If that sounds like a party line, it is. That is proper progress because Ben and Martin and Steven are so busy, but actually trying to get everybody to interlock is ... we have made significant progress," he said.

"Sherlock" season 4 is slated to return in BBC on its usual three episodes airing in 2016. Prior to that, a Christmas Special in 2015 will be released.
