Sony Games Coming To The Nintendo Switch

Sony has announced that it will be producing games for the Nintendo Switch with the first of these new releases to come next month. This comes as a surprise as the company currently has its own line of consoles.

The entertainment giant's newest venture, dubbed Untie, is a brand new indie games publishing label focusing on Japanese developers. The games are mostly for Nintendo's growing handheld console as well as the PC instead of focusing on Sony's own flagship console the PlayStation 4.

"Sony Music Entertainment has created a new game publishing label called Unties, in order to penetrate the ever-expanding video game market with indie games, which are continuing to draw attention even within Japan," the company said in a recent statement. "Recent progress in the game development world has made it possible for even small-scale production teams to create high-quality games."

Untie got its name from the company's idea of freeing creators from various publishing ties that often bind creative freedom. They also want to bring games developed by a handful of indie developers to the gaming masses.

The first of these games include "Tiny Metal," a military-style turn-based strategy game set to be released on Nov. 21 for the PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC. The game is developed by Hiroaki Yura's new studio Area35 and shares several similarities with "Advance Wars." And this is just the first of many titles to be released by Untie.

In addition to publishing titles made in Japan, the publisher also has a few foreign titles on its list. One of these is Taiwanese studio Rayak's new VR title, an action-rhythm game "Deemo-Reborn."

A new publishing arm might not be the only big news coming out of Sony as it is rumored that the company is making one more console prior to the release of the PlayStation 5. The company is reportedly hoping to extend the shelf life of the PS4 brand as well as compete with the Nintendo Switch and the soon to be released Xbox One X.
