The Cardinals got their series off to the perfect start, taking complete advantage of the fact the opening two games would be taking place in St Louis. They won both home games and now go on the road to Los Angeles with a 2-0 lead.

The next three games will be taking place in L.A. with the Cardinals knowing that a win in any of the three away games would put them on the brink of a World Series appearance.

The Dodgers will be extremely tense for today's game – they know they cannot afford any more slip ups and they are in danger of falling too far behind in this series already in the race for the National League pennant.

The Dodgers will be sending pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu to the mound for Game 3, hoping that he can drive them to their first win of the series so far and get them back into contention.

Ryu of course made one start in the NLDS, but had a tough time of it; allowing four runs on six hits and a walk while pitching just three innings.

The Dodgers will be hoping that he can return to his regular season form tonight, as he was consistently performing at the highest standard prior to the postseason getting underway. He posted a 3.00 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 30 starts after he was signed by the Dodgers.

The man facing off against Ryu on the mound tonight will need no introduction. Adam Wainwright is one of the most efficient pitchers in the MLB, and he will throwing tonight to try and get the Cardinals within one more win from the World Series.

Wainwright has been outstanding in the NLDS series against the Pirates. He made two starts in that series, allowing two runs over 16 innings with a 0.75 WHIP.

He of course pitched in the decisive Game 5 of that series, and ultimately held his nerve to help the Cardinals book their place in the Championship Series.

In the regular season Wainwright led the league in starts, innings pitched, and complete games. He recorded a 2.94 ERA, a 1.07 WHIP and struck out a career-high 219 batters. There is no man the Cardinals would prefer to be out there today.
