Steve Jobs Knew How to 'Think Different'

It was more than just an advertising slogan created for Apple Computer in 1997. It was the way Steve Jobs lived his entire life, including the way he approached technology. "Think Different" was at the foundation of everything Steve touched. It also happens to be a phrase that describes what Jesus taught people to do while He was on earth.

Man senses his need for a strong spiritual life. This desire led Steve Jobs to India in 1973 in search of enlightenment. As in technology, a successful spiritual life requires more than just a new way of doing things. It calls for a paradigm shift in your worldview.

If Steve Jobs had not been so passionate about thinking outside the box, just think of the inventions that might never have come into existence. The fact of the matter is that most Americans today do not live with a biblical worldview. The spiritual challenge for Americans is not merely to spend more time thinking outside the box, but especially, to spend more time thinking "inside the Book." God's Word will seem very different to you if you have not been living inside of it lately, if ever.

You will never understand the Christian faith until you think different. If you approach it with the faith of a child and in the simplicity that Steve Jobs approached life, you will discover the "Holy Grail" so to speak of spirituality. Whatever negative connotations you may have of Christianity have not come from the Person of Jesus. You still have time to think different; and then to believe different; and then to live different. If you do, you will be free forever.

Steve's spiritual search led him to embrace Buddhism, at least for awhile. It was simple, just like Steve. Jesus invites us to keep thinking differently until we meet Him and know Him and experience His love firsthand. Until that happens for a person, it won't be enough to only find a simple approach to spirituality. We need a simple approach that will connect us to God in this life, and then take us from this world of technology to a heavenly kingdom of glory at the moment of our death. Otherwise, what have we really gained?

Think of it as an update to your spiritual operating system. As you seek the Truth and open your mind to how different Jesus is compared to all the rest, you will begin to enter a state of enlightenment. Rather than "zen," Jesus gives us His "peace." He said, "My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives." (John 14:27)

The world gives a subjective peace that is not based on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Lord gives us something objective upon which to discover true enlightenment. His love. His death. His resurrection. His eternal kingdom. There are no buttons to press, which Steve would enjoy. There is simply rest. Simplicity, eternal joy, and completeness.

Allow yourself to be free to think different for a moment. Think what it would it mean for you if you could honestly say with the Psalmist: "You have made known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand." (Psalm 16:11) Can you grasp the simplicity of it, as well as the beauty and enduring nature of it?

Technology is extremely useful in this world. Eternal pleasures are only available in heaven. That is why there is no better time for you than right now to think different about Jesus and His free gift of eternal life in paradise. When your iPad and iPhone are shut off for the last time, your soul will still be as eternal as it was when God invented it.
