Super Smash Bros 4 Character: King Dedede to Return for New Game

Nintendo revealed a new character for Super Smash Bros 4 last week confirming that King Dedede will return for the next installment of the series.

The addition of Dedede brings the total amount of characters to 21.

The game's director Masahiro Sakurai announced the news through his Miiverse page towards the end of last week in honor of the character's recent appearance in the latest Kirby game to be released in Japan.

"Pic of the day. Celebrating the launch of Kirby: Triple Deluxe in Japan, King Dedede joins the battle!" he said. "Check out his evocative facial expressions on the official web site."

King Dedede gives some interesting and comical facial expressions when pain is inflicted on him or when he is gearing up for an attack. The King is Kirby's main antagonist and has been a part of the Kirby series since its inception on the original NES.

The last character added to the lineup before King Dedede was Super Mario Galaxy's Rosalina.

Super Smash Bros 4 was rumored to be coming out in spring 2014, according to a Nintendo executive from Germany, but the company now claims that information was based on a misquote.

Nintendo's Bernd Fakesch held an interview with Neckar-chronik.de earlier this month regarding upcoming releases for the company. Fakesch was quoted as saying the game would be arriving.

"For next spring two more big license games are also announced for our TV console with Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros," read the quote.

A Nintendo representative contacted VG247 to inform them of the misquote. We would like to clarify that the speculation about a Spring 2014 launch date for Super Smash Bros. on Wii U was the result of a misquotation in an interview," they said.
