The Holiness in Marital relationships

Today’s society and culture is all about sex, especially the media stealing ground in everything we see, hear, and buy. Maintaining purity can difficult for many Christians because every one around them is living this way. It can also be hard if a person doesn’t understand why pre-marital sexual relations is wrong. It feels as if God is restricting and confining their freedom when the paradox, “without laws, there is no true freedom,” holds true.

When God created man in Genesis, He specifically states His plan for man and woman. He told Adam, “Be fruitful, increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

The family is God’s plan for populating the earth with people who would love God and be loved by Him. Families, initially consisting of the man and woman, are commissioned by God to learn the love God has given man and nurture children with that same love, guiding them to the Lord. Living beautifully and happily centered on the love of God, the image of the family can reveal God’s glory.

We are all sacred temples of God’s Holy Spirit. We defile our bodies when we have sexual relationships outside God’s holy love as conveyed through marriage.

“Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’ But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” Corinthians 6:15-20

The relationship as seen between Church and Christ is a model for relationship between man and women, having a union of purity, love, and holiness.

"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. This is a profound mystery--but I am talking about Christ and the church.” Ephesians 5:31-32

The Bible strong speaks about sin especially those pertaining to sexual immorality. Sexual immorality includes having sex outside or marriage.

“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders …

…Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:9,18-20

“Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry. But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. I say this as a concession, not as a command. I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that. Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. To the married I give this command (not I, but the Lord): A wife must not separate from her husband.” 1 Corinthians 7:1-10

“Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.” Colossians 3:5-6
