The sophomore season of "The Man in the High Castle" promises unpredictable storyline and expanded cast. The new installment of the hit Amazon television series will introduce some interesting new characters, including Hawthorne Abendsen and Nicole Becker.
Who is Hawthorne Abendsen?
Isa Dick Hackett, executive producer of the dystopian alternative history drama, revealed to Deadline last month that the upcoming season will introduce Hawthorne. The character is an author who is "the man in the high castle."

Hawthorne is the titular character of Philip K. Dick's 1962 novel of the same title where the Amazon web television series is based from. According to Den of Geek, Hawthorne is the author of the "The Grasshopper Lies Heavy," a novel within the novel which is the source of the main characters' obsession. The Amazon series replaced Hawthorne's novel into a mysterious film reel.
Hawthorne's book in Philip K. Dick's novel tells the story of an alternate universe where the Axis powers triumphed during World War II. In the novel, the Germans banned Hawthorne's book, while it is legal in the neutral states. It is also enormously popular in the Japanese Pacific states.
The producers of the hit Amazon show did not reveal yet the actor who will play the role.
Joe's New Love Interest
EW reported that the producers of the Amazon series casted Bella Heathcote as Season 2 series regular. The 29-year-old Australian actress will portray Nicole Becker, a young filmmaker from Berlin who will cross path with Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank).
Nicole will eventually become Joe's new love interest. Joe was last seen in the Season 1 finale parting ways with Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos).

The pilot season ended with several cliffhangers as Frank Frink (Rupert Evans) and Julianna watched Joe shooting Frank himself in a futuristic video. The climactic final scene also unveiled that it is possible to travel between realities. It revealed Nobusuke Tagomi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) was able to travel to an alternate version of America in the 1960s where the Allies won World War II.
Per Digital Trends, the sophomore season will focus on Juliana dealing with the consequences of her past actions. It will also feature Joe moving to Berlin and Frank turning more radicalized after watching the mysterious film.
The second season will also see Trade Minister Tagomi regretting his decisions after political tensions between Germany and Japan continue to mount. Moreover, John Smith (Rufus Sewell) will struggle to reconcile the Reich's values with the worsening health of his son.
The sophomore season will premiere on December 16 at Amazon Prime Video.
