The actress said that "The Sinner" was intended only to be a limited series and that possibilities of a sequel were not taken into account. But because of the show's "amazing viewership" and feedback, they are now in a place where a season 2 could pull through.

Biel, who also served as an executive producer in "The Sinner," revealed that she and the cast of the show are already looking for possible plot lines and ideas for the speculated season 2.

"We are really diving deeply with our creative team, our writers' room. We're hoping to set it up and see if we can come up with some amazing and interesting stories," said Biel.

She added that she will "definitely be involved in some way" if the show will be granted a second season, whether as her character Cora or as an executive producer. Biel admits that she hopes her character does get written in the sequel, but only if it doesn't affect the storyline.

"I hope somebody writes me into the show, if we can figure it out. We will figure it out if it's possible, but we want to be authentic to the show," Biel shared.

Since "The Sinner" is still waiting to receive the official green light for a second season, details about the sequel are yet to be confirmed. However, fans of the limited series are already speculating on what storylines could be featured in season 2.

According to Cosmopolitan, one possible plot for season 2 is Harry's (Bill Pullman) backstory.

On the show, it was revealed that Harry was into bondage, discipline, sadism, and masochism (BDSM) practices with another woman while he was trying to make his marriage work. Unfortunately, both his wife and his other lover left him for good before he wrapped up Cora's case.

Fans believe that seeing Harry's past in season 2 that lead him to his life then would be a good storyline.

"The Sinner" season 2 has yet to be confirmed.
