'The Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers: Series Writer Reveals 'Delena' Engagement

Things are getting more intense and exciting as the sixth season of the hit supernatural TV drama series "The Vampire Diaries" continues. And this week's episode titled "A Bird in a Gilded Cage" will offer more of that.

The previous episode left fans both exhilarated and surprised when Caroline (Candice Accola) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) succumbed to their "blood-thirsty and emotionless sides" which now make them a deadly pair inside Mystic Falls.

Fortunately, the younger Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) has a plan to switch his brother and Caroline back to their humanity and that would require them to travel back in time.

ET Online offers a glimpse to what this throwback episode would be like in a sneak peek they posted.

"We need Kai (Chris Wood) to get to 1903, and we need Bennet blood to do the damn spell," Damon explained to Bonnie (Kat Graham) in the video teaser. "Listen, we do in, we grab my mom, she flips Stefan's switch, he triggers Caroline. Emotional dominoes – Yay! Everybody wins!"

A synopsis was posted on The Futon Critic and it reveals that the plan to rescue the Salvatore matriarch (Annie Wersching) from prison would also involve Elena (Nina Dobrev).

Speaking of which, a wave of speculation from fans indicates that this Thursday segment would once again offer another Delena moment and this might include an engagement.

The news came after an avid follower of the asked show writer Neil Reynolds about what to expect in the next episode.

Reynolds gave off the answer through a slew of emojis which apparently included an engagement ring. But the emoji sentence seems to suggest tragedy as well given the skull symbol shown at the end.

How will this "Delena engagement" drama plays out in this episode? We'll find out when "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 episode 17 "A Bird in a Gilded Cage" airs this Thursday, March 19 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
