Latest on George R.R. Martin's Progress On 'Winds of Winter' Novel

Martin recently hinted that 'The Winds of Winter' could come out this year

Frustrating as it may be for fans, there is still no known release date for "The Winds of Winter" just yet. However, author George R.R. Martin did recently provide a bit of an update regarding what his future plans could be, and they may impact the book in at least some way.

In a recent post on LiveJournal, Martin talked about anthologies and even expressed a love for editing them. He also indicated that he is still interested in working on more anthologies in the future but added that he is not doing that right now for a very good reason.

As Martin shared, working on these anthologies took up a lot of his time, too much of it apparently, and so he made the decision to shelve those plans for now.

Martin also hinted that he may work once again on those anthologies when he finally finishes writing "The Winds of Winter."

At the very least, fans can view Martin's desire to work on anthologies again as possibly added motivation for him to complete the eagerly anticipated novel, even though he likely isn't lacking for reasons to make that book available anyway.

Earlier this year, Martin also offered a bit of a progress update with regards to the book.

After a fan commented on one of Martin's earlier LiveJournal posts, urging him to provide another update revealing where the book is at currently, Martin responded by sharing that he has made more progress, though the rate he's going still apparently fell short of his expectations from last year.

Martin finished by stating, "I think it will be out this year," before adding that he thought the same thing in 2016 as well.

That's probably not the detailed book update fans are hoping for, but it can still be seen as a step closer to the eventual completion and release of "The Winds of Winter."
