Toddler Survives Being Shot in Head: Grandmother Says 'I have faith in God'

The grandmother of a toddler, Samiyah Bailey, who miraculously survived being shot directly in the head Thursday, has said her faith in God is strong.

"God is gonna work it out, and my grandbaby's going to be fine and everything," Patricia Mahoney told ABC Network. “And I know that, cause I have faith in God.”

Samiyah, a 21-month-old girl was shot while sitting in a stroller at a Staten Island playground. She was immediately transported by her parents to the Richmond University Medical Center in critical condition. Blood was gushing out of her wound on the way.

The bullet went through Samiyah’s temple and exited right between her eyes. After several operations, doctors managed to save the girl’s life, but not her eye.

It is believed that the 19-year-old shooter, Damark King, who is currently under arrest, aimed at the little girl’s father and uncle, who were standing next to her at the time of the shooting.

The uncle, Michael Bailey, has been taken to custody and is awaiting charges, police said.

Police has also stopped three other people who were in the car with King at the time of the shooting. Two of them were later released.

The residents of Mariner’s Harbor, where the shooting took place, said that shootouts were nothing new in the area, and that they were getting very fed up with the situation.

However, a young mother told ABC that the playground in that area is the only one in the neighborhood, and so parents had no other place to take their children to.

"I'd just be so nervous coming out here," the young mother said.
