For Christians on-the-go looking to get their daily dose of scripture without having to lug around an oversized King James Version of the Holy Bible, free Devotional apps and an electronic Bible seems like an intelligent transition.

The Android market offers a wide variety of eBibles and devotional apps including YouVersion that actually comes with its own built in variety of devotionals. But here is a list of some of the highest rated stand alone devotionals offered on the Android market.

This devotional receive a 4 ½ out of 5 star rating from customers reviewing it. It is offered for free on the Android market and provides daily encouragement for Christians. The messages used for the devotional are written by well known theologian Charles Spurgeon who is also known as “The Prince of the Preachers.” It has features included in it such as Facebook sharing and a link from each day’s Bible verse to Biblegateway.com. This app was released by Whitney Apps.

Daily Bible Devotional

This app, offered for free on the Android Market and created by JCTROIS also received a 4 ½ out of 5 star customer rating. It is described as an app that provides devotionals and Bible verses that are easy to understand and help one to grow in their relationship with God.

Jesus Calling 

This app created by Nelson media is not a free app and runs Android users $9.99. However, it happens to be one of the highest rated of its kind receiving 5 out of 5 stars. Most of the devotionals are penned by missionary Sarah Young. It is described by the company as a mobile version of the time tested classic original version. It allows users to search on it by using keywords, dates, topics and verses. It also lets them share a verse on social networking site such as Facebook or Twitter.

Devotional-Daily Bread

The paperback Daily Bread is arguably one of the most popular devotionals on the market. However, it is not made clear if this version is related to the other. It still received a 4.4 out of 5 rating on the Android market and is offered for free. It provides Christians with a daily devotional that is distributed in over 40 languages. It was created by BIG HITS.

Mornings With Tozer Devotional

This is another app that has received a 5 out of 5 stars review from customers who have used it. It was created by 43rd Element and can be purchased through the Android market for $3.99. It features the writings of A.W. Tozer and uses the ESV Bible to teach from.
