'True Love Project' Launches New Curriculum With Emphasis on Abstinence and God's Redemption Following Sexual Sin

The True Love Waits movement, known for spreading the message of sexual purity among young adults, has launched a new resource featuring a video-driven Bible study designed to encourage teenagers to pursue God through abstinence.

The eight-session curriculum, "True Love Project," not only teaches the importance of purity but it also calls on the next generation of students to understand their sexuality in light of the Gospel.

"The ultimate goal in life should be more than simply being a virgin on your wedding day. It should be to belong to Jesus on Judgment Day," Clayton King, who wrote the program along with his wife, Sharie, told The Christian Post.

Included in the curriculum, designed to be taught by churches to their youth groups, are DVD teaching segments to help facilitate group discussions. Furthermore, the project features video testimonies by Christian leaders such as author and YouTube star Jeff Bethke, megachurch pastor Perry Noble and more.

"The guests that Sharie and I interview in the teaching curriculum bring vast experience and wisdom into the discussion. We have a former NFL star, a pastor and his wife who minister to sexually broken women in Las Vegas, a mixed-race couple, a former Miss Black USA, and a pastor who experienced sexual abuse as a child," said King.

He has also incorporated the topics of Jesus's grace and forgiveness in the program while highlighting that sexual sin does not disqualify a person from experiencing God's best for their future.

"When we mess up, it doesn't mean we give up. Jesus is Lord of everything, including our bodies and our sexuality. He wants something good for us, and love, sex, romance and marriage are good things when experienced in their proper context," said King.

He added, "We want students, as well as adults, to understand that there are practical ways to avoid the pitfalls of sexual temptation and honor God with your body, because what they do with their bodies matters significantly. We frame the entire issue of sexual purity in God's bigger story of creation, fall, redemption and restoration."

The True Love Project is an updated version of the same abstinence-focused message that the movement has spread among millions during the last two decades.

"Our prayer for the True Love Project is that it would glorify Jesus by helping young people live their lives as witnesses to the world that the gospel is true and that Christ alone offers purity, joy and unconditional love," said King.

King has been preaching and writing about love, sex and marriage for more than two decades throughout churches, public schools, and college campuses after being a part of the 'True Love Waits' movement that began in 1994.

That same year, over 210,000 covenant cards were displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. as the project's first event and to this day, an estimated three million youth have signed commitment cards pledging sexual purity, including King who said the pledge changed the trajectory of his life as a young adult.
