Vanessa Hudgens Opens up on Her Father's Death: 'Life Is About Perspective'

Months after her father died, singer and actress Vanessa Hudgens finally opens up. Speaking at an interview, she said "life is about perspective" and her perspective has been greatly influenced by her mom.

Since her father died, Vanessa continues with life, experiencing both highs and lows as everyone does, Vanessa told People Magazine. She says "death happens" and it's something we all have to get through.

"There are highs and there are lows," she told People. "It sucks, but death happens. It never makes it easier but it happens to all of us. It's just something we have to get through until we all meet again in heaven."

Vanessa praised her mother Gina for being "strong through the hardest of times." She also shared how her mother has been a special light through the dark times.

"She has this lightheartedness and this light that just beams out of her very being and it's so special," Vanessa told the publication. "Life is about perspective. The way you choose to see your life is the way your life is going to become."

Her mom is more than her light but also her role model who offers her both support and guidance. Through it all, the artist has been following her mother's lead.

"My mom looks out through such beautiful eyes," she says. "I've learned to follow her lead."

Vanessa was "inseparable" from her mother when she was growing up so it isn't surprising she gets her big lessons in life from her mom.

Vanessa's father Gregory died of cancer in January. She learned about his death just four hours before her live performance of "Grease," a musical event on Fox. The 27-year-old played Rizzo and she dedicated her performance that night to her father.

Vanessa will play insurance agent Emily Locke in a NBC's DC Comics comedy pilot "Powerless." The role marks her first regular role in a TV series.
