Verizon FiOS TV Services Coming to Xbox Live in December (VIDEO)

Xbox 360's dashboard update will feature a new Verizon FiOS application for Xbox 360's Live online services.

Microsoft first announced the addition of traditional TV services for Xbox Live for the past few months. Users will now have the chance to use the Kinect's motion controls to browse TV channels using voice and gestures.

This new online application allows Xbox Live users to stream channels without the use of a set-top cable box.

The FiOS TV app will be available free for Xbox Live Gold members and subscribers to Verizon's FiOS TV service. Starting next month, Xbox Live users will have access to several channels, even some that come in standard definition.

Some of the channels that will be offered through the services are listed below.

- Cinemax
- Comedy Central
- ESPNews
- Food Network
- HBO 2
- Nickelodeon
- Spike
- Travel Channel
- truTV
- VH1
- Boomerang
- Cartoon Network
- Hallmark Channel
- MTV2
- Nick Jr
- TV Land

Verizon is also offering Xbox Live users a worthwhile deal if they sign up online.

The triple play offer will be available through Jan. 21. This package bundles FiOS TV, FiOS 35/35 Mbps Internet service and Verizon voice service for $89.99 a month, plus a 12-month Xbox LIVE Gold Membership and copy of Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary.

Eric Bruno, vice president of consumer and mass business product management for Verizon, said joining forces with “Microsoft and Xbox, we are breaking the boundaries between TV and gaming, and furthering the borderless lifestyle Verizon customers enjoy with our new offers and services."

Verizon also gave a statement on its new partnership with gaming hub Machinima: "Verizon is partnering with leading gaming network Machinima to sponsor the Gamers’ Choice Award, which will be given out during Machinima’s Inside Gaming Awards on Dec. 9."

"You can vote for your favorite game of the year through Facebook here or on Twitter by using the #FiOSGamers hashtag, which also qualifies as entry into a sweepstakes that includes a grand prize of two years of Verizon FiOS triple-play service, a multi-room DVR, a Microsoft Kinect and 40,000 Microsoft points. The sweepstakes also includes daily prizes of 4,000 Microsoft gaming points that will be awarded to five winners daily from now through Dec. 8,” Verizon added.
