'Vikings' Season 5 Rumors: Harald Dons a Crown; Floki Discovers Iceland

"Vikings" season 5 will be the first season of the series without Ragnar (Travis Fimmell). Details about the upcoming season remain scarce, but the preview for season 5 hints that it will focus on the sons of Ragnar as they fight over his now empty throne.

A sneak peek for the upcoming season was released shortly after the conclusion of the previous season. The clip shows Harald (Peter Franzen) happy with a crown on his head. It also shows Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard) as he discovers Iceland after being washed up ashore in the midst of a vicious storm.

For fans who have seen the preview, the crown on Harald's head is not a good sign for Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick). It can be recalled that in the previous season, Harald was longing to be a Lothbrok and wanted to rule Norway. In the upcoming season, it is expected that he and Lagertha will be going against each other and the latter will have a slim chance of being the victor.

Aside from Harald, Heahmund (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) will also be one of the antagonists next season but the story of his villainy has yet to be revealed.

Meanwhile, many fans believe that Floki is loosely based on Hrafna-Floki Villgeroarson, a historical figure known for being the first Norseman to discover Iceland during the ninth and 10th centuries. Since the preview for season 5 shows Floki washed up on the shores of an unknown island, many fans were quick to speculate that the island is actually Iceland. Previously, "Vikings" creator Michael Hirst also confirmed that the upcoming season will feature the Nordic island nation.

"Vikings" season 4 ended with the death of Sigurd Snake-in-the-Eye (David Lindstorm), after he was accidentally killed by his brother, Ivar the Boneless (Alex Hogh Andersen). Season 5 will explore Ivar's relationship with Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) and how they will lead a war in the Viking world.

"Vikings" season 5 does not have a premiere date yet but it is expected to air sometime in November.
