The Nationals won a tight contest in Game 1 on Sunday, coming through as eventual winners 3-2. If they can win this second contest they will be hot favorites to take the series as from Game 3 the series will move to Washington, giving the Nationals the slight edge with home advantage.

However, the Cardinals will know that this is a must-win game, and they will try and put things right having come up short in an disappointing loss on Sunday.

In team news left hander Jaime Garcia has been handed the start for the Cardinals, and the Nationals will look to Jordan Zimmermann.

Although the Nationals won in Game 1 they certainly gave the Cardinals enough opportunities to claim the win. However, St Louis were unable to take advantage of Gio Gonzalez's dodgy opening spells in which he walked seven batters, and even threw a wild pitch to plate St. Louis' first run.
