Whitney Houston Honored by US Congress

Members of the U.S. House of Representative recognized the death of Whitney Houston on Monday after the singer was found dead in a hotel bathtub over the weekend.

Rep. Laura Richardson of California addressed the House by offering kind words about the late iconic singer.

"Mr. Speaker, where do broken hearts go? Millions of hearts broke at the news that with her passing, we lost one of the greatest gifts of all; the pure joy we felt whenever Whitney sang one of those songs that made us get up and want to dance with somebody. Yes, we almost had it all. "

Richardson, a Democrat, spoke about the great gift Houston possessed and rued that the singer died too young.

"Whitney Houston left us too soon, but her remarkable voice will live in our hearts as one moment in time we will never forget," Richardson concluded.

Houston was found dead in a hotel bathtub ahead of the Grammy Awards on Sunday. She was 48 years old.

Houston's cause of death could have been caused by a lethal combination of Xanax and other pills with liquor, family sources told TMZ. The coroner informed a Houston family insider - although toxicology reports are incomplete, so results are not official - that the singer did not have enough water in her lungs to have drowned.
