Who Gets the Credit?

The LORD handed Lachish over to Israel, and Joshua took it on the second day. The city and everyone in it he put to the sword, just as he had done to Libnah. (Joshua 10:32 NIV)

There are a number of themes that run throughout the book of Joshua. One of them is repeated in this verse... "The LORD handed Lachish over to Israel." God got the credit. Over and over again throughout Joshua's conquest of Canaan, God gets the credit for what is happening.

If you get a promotion at work, do you tell people, "I got a promotion"? Or do you say, "The Lord got me that promotion at work"? When a long-standing problem in your life has been solved, do you tell your friends, "I finally conquered that problem"? Or do you say, "The Lord overcame that situation for me?"

Who gets the credit?

Okay, okay, so when you're at church, you tell everyone what the Lord did. You give a "praise" report, asking that it be put on the board so everyone can see what God did. You call your Christian friends, telling them what God did in your life, the miracle He just performed. And then you run into someone outside of your circle of "church" friends. Do you tell them exactly the same thing in exactly the same way? Or do you tell the story with a different slant, at best, taking the emphasis off of God’s hand in the situation, or at worst, leaving God out entirely?

Who gets the credit?

In every area of your life, keep watch on who gets the credit - you or God. Remember, He made you. Everything you are, every talent you have, everything that you own - belongs to Him.

"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing." John 15:5
