Xbox One Becomes Australia's Quickest Selling Console of All-Time

Xbox One was just named Australia's fastest selling video game console of all time.

The console launched in Australia on November 22, the same date as the U.S. and was able to meet the demand of the customers, something the PS4 was unable to do because it ran out of stock, reports WinBeta.

"The company would not break out local sales, but industry sources told The Australian Financial Review Australian sales of Sony's device fell short of Microsoft's across the same period a week earlier, primarily due to the company being unable to ship enough consoles to meet the number of pre-orders at bricks-and-mortar retailers," a report from data firm NPD said.

65,917 units were sold in the first three days, which doubled the previous record of the Wii in 2006, said NPD.

In contrast, PlayStation 4 became the quickest selling console of all-time in the UK, selling over 250,000 units in just 48 hours.

Telegraph reports that the PS4 beat previous sales records set by the PSP and Xbox One. Microsoft had sold over 150,000 consoles in the first 48 hours of their launch.

The PS4 arrived in the UK on November 29, two weeks after it was released in America, where it sold over a million in 24 hours. Eight years ago, the PSP sold over 180,000 in its first 48 hours in the UK. Sony broke their own record and retains the title.

"PS4 has sold through over 1 million units with the 24 hours of the launch in North America!!! :D," Sony President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida announced on Twitter two weeks ago.

Xbox One sold over one million consoles globally in its first 24 hours following its launch in 13 markets including, North America, Australia, and parts of South America and Europe, on November 22.

"We are humbled and grateful for the excitement of Xbox fans around the world," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of marketing and strategy at Xbox, in a released statement. "Seeing thousands of excited fans lined up to get their Xbox One and their love for gaming was truly a special moment for everyone on the Xbox team. We are working hard to create more Xbox One consoles and look forward to fulfilling holiday gift wishes this season."

PlayStation 4 is available for $399 and the Xbox One is $499.
