The race to challenge Trump: Which Democrats are leading in the new year?

The endorsement primary

Political website FiveThirtyEight is keeping track of the number of endorsements that each of the Democratic primary candidates are receiving.

FiveThirtyEight used a points system scaled 10 to 1, with 10 points awarded for endorsements from former presidents or vice presidents as well as national party leaders, 8 points for governors, 6 for U.S. senators, and lower scores for less notable figures.

In data updated on Thursday morning, Biden leads with 175 points, which is 35 points higher than his total reported on Nov. 15 of last year.

Behind the former vice president are Warren with 66 points, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey with 60 points, Klobuchar with 50 points, and Sanders with 48 points.

When she was still a presidential candidate, Harris placed second at one point last November with 89 points.
