Advocates for a proposed constitutional amendment establishing a right to abortion in Nevada are in the process of collecting signatures.
The Nevada Reproductive Rights Amendment would amend the state constitution to state, “All individuals shall have a fundamental right to abortion performed or administered by a qualified health care practitioner until fetal viability, or when needed to protect the life or health of the pregnant patient, without interference from the state or its political subdivisions.”
The Guttmacher Institute lists Nevada as one of 13 states that protects the right to abortion prior to viability. Requirements outlined by the Nevada Secretary of State’s office illustrate that supporters of the initiative must collect signatures equivalent to 10% of the number of voters in the preceding general election.
