Pro-lifers formed Life Chains in cities around the nation to send the message that pre-born children are children too.

Pro-life supporters stood in Life Chains all around the nation Sunday for an hour of prayer and peaceful protest.

They held signs that read, “Abortion Kills Children,” “Life—The first Inalienable Right,” and “Jesus Forgives and Heals.”

In North America alone, over 1,000 cities and towns were reported to have participated in the National Life Chain, which is "a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and the Church supports the sanctity of life from the moment of conception," according to the Life Chain Web site.

Amy Kessinger, a participant from Chambersburg, Pa., said she is praying that God will change people’s decisions on abortion.

"I'm just praying that God will help people realize that abortion is wrong and he'll take a lot of people who are complacent about it, and he'll just break their hearts," Kessinger told The Public Opinion.

The Life Chain event began in 1987 in Yuba City and Marysville by a small California-based pro-life ministry called Please Let Me Live. Another Life Chain event will be held on Oct. 31. The 2005 National Life Chain is scheduled for Oct. 2.
