Thousands of representatives of the world’s religions will convene in Australia for the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions.
An estimated 8,000-12,000 people will meet in Melbourne, Australia, Dec. 3-9, 2009, to dialogue, build interfaith relationships, and discuss critical issues facing the global community.
Adherents of a wide range of religious traditions will be present including: Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Baha’i Jain, and Zoroastrian.
“The Parliament event is a place where people come together to encounter ‘the other,’” organizers state in the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions (CPWR) website. “This encounter can lead to a deepening of one’s own sense of religious and spiritual identity and an appreciation for the challenges or difference within one’s own tradition, as well as between and among traditions.”
The 2009 Parliament will feature 500 events such as dialogues, workshops, performances and plenaries on religious identity.
Emerging topics for the gathering include social cohesion, poverty, the environment, indigenous peoples, and terrorism. Other issues that will be address are indigenous reconciliation, environmental degradation and care, gender issues including sex trafficking, education and the challenge of social disengagement, forced migration, global terrorism, and the role of religion in modern societies.
Pre-parliament events in 40 cities are slated to take place around the world to highlight the upcoming event in Australia.
Melbourne was selected as the host city because of its multi-religious, multi-lingual, and multicultural environment, according to organizers. The city is praised for demonstrating collaboration among its religious communities through inter-religious councils, school programs, and solidarity in times of stress and crisis. Melbourne has also formed a council that works to ensure ongoing collaboration between religious leaders and police.
“Melbourne’s social policy model fosters cohesion and harmony in a multicultural and multi-religious society,” commented CPWR.
Previous gatherings were held in Chicago (1993), Cape Town (1999) and Barcelona (2004).
Plans are currently underway for a 2007 Universal Forum of Cultures in Monterrey, Mexico. The forum will include Parliament-style events and dialogues addressing issues such as religious and spiritual diversity, bioethics, violence, the plight of the marginalized and the role of religion and spirituality in society.

The Pope has spoken specifically against this type of Prosperity Gospel that makes materialism and success their God. This is outright IDOLOTRY. Yes, we should get together with other religions to discuss morality and how to coexist, but we Christians as the Pope has said many times and all Popes have said for 2000 years, "Preach Jesus Christ to them". We must spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and speak about His Truth to those who do not know him.
We must fight this one world religion at all costs because it seeks to make all religions equal. WE ARE NOT. JESUS CHRIST IS THE ONLY SAVIOR AND Budha or Mohammed isn't going to save you. These meeting must be an opportunity to charitably witness to them about Jesus Christ, but you know they won't do it because these groups are politically correct.
Coexisting is all about humanism, and not about Jesus. These type of Groups seek to denigrate and deny the most important thing that sepparates us from other religions and that is how Jesus Christ is the only way to Salvation.

Be warned, for this is what the Bible says: God is gracious and merciful, and will forgive those who turn to Him thru Jesus Christ with a repentant heart, and choose to fllow Him. However, He is the Righteous God, and He will judge those who deliberately turned their backs on Him and His Son - Jesus Christ because of their obstinate rebellion and continual rejection of His Son. Read the Bible in context, and then comment on it. We cannot, and should not have felowship with those who claim to be Christians yet don't obey His Word, and HIs Salvation Message. The post modern liberal Emergent church, and it's seeker sensitive counterparts want people to believe that if we all save the environment, and save the whales, the events of the Book of Revelation will not happen, and we can actually prevent it from happening. This similar social gospel which claims that we should make the world a better place, and usher in peace prior to Jesus' second coming, as well as unite with all people of faiths has been adopted by Rick Warren, and has caused whole splits in the Southern Baptist Convention, because he has gone down the Purpose Driven P.E.A.C.E Plan agenda, which by the way is a false doctrine my friends. These movements which align themselves with Bono from U2 and the whole COEXIST crowd have more in common with humanism, one world religeon, and the new age than what the Bible says will transpire. The problem today is that we have so many "Bible teachers" who are more motivational speakers than true shepherd's of the flock of God. No wonder the Body of Christ is split. The Bible talks of a great falling away in the end times. Men will naturally gravitate towards what their "itching ears" want to hear. What more itching do you need than what you hear on TBN, and the like: "find success", "you are the controller of your own destiny" "God will prosper you if you just have faith [and send me your money]". They take Scripture out of context to suit their own desires, and fleece the flock of God for their own matierial gain. OPEN YOUR EYES and STUDY the WORD IN CONTEXT; for Christ will return soon.
